To anyone headed for the Illinois: be aware that the Selma cafe has closed. However, if you want to drive the extra 7 miles to Cave Junction, you can find the same friendly service and good food at PJ's restaurant, and don't miss the goodies at the Rolling Pin Bakery. Both are recommended.

Background

Rogue River Permit System Drastically Altered (12/94,12/95) by Jim Reed

The permitted season is extended on both ends. You now need a permit from May15 thru Oct 15. It is unclear whether the distribution of permits will be 50:50 commercial to noncommercial or if it will reflect the actual distribution of boaters as indicated by their three year's of survey data, or even if the lottery will be weighted by user nights on the river.

Lottery Dates are changed to Dec 1 to Jan 31 to be consistent with the Idaho lotteries. The lottery will be run by Tioga Resources, Inc. P.O.B. 5149, Roseburg, OR 97470; 541-672-4168. They will offer expanded customer benefits including 24 hr telephone info, FAX back options, and credit card charging. The fee will increase from $2 to $4.00. Call TRI directly and not Ken Vines at River Information. Drop him a note with your thoughts at 14335 Galice Road, Merlin OR 97532-9725 or phone him at 541-479-3735.
